Trailer coupling units

Coupling units for trailers are an indispensable accessory, which greatly improves the driving comfort when towing a heavy-duty trailer (with a GVW value exceeding 750 kg). Trailer coupling units are needed to increase the braking abilities of your trailer. When braking a car, the trailer puts additional pressure on the coupling ball and the coupling unit activates itself to give additional protection. Thanks to this mechanism, the braking procedure is much more effective and other braking elements are not exposed to accelerated wear and tear, meaning that the overall mechanism will serve you for much longer.

Trailer brake system - explained

Choosing the right brake unit for your trailer should commence by checking the brand or make of the trailer's axle. Amongst the most common ones are AL-KO and KNOTT. In the next step, you should check the drawbar type - most commonly, drawbars are in the shape of the letters "V" or "T". The type of the drawbar that your trailer is equipped with largely narrows the amount of possible coupling units which can be mounted. Next, check if the drawbar is a square or a round one. Continue by measuring the diameter of the coupling ball and check the trailer's maximum GVW value. Having all of this information at your disposal will make the selection process much swifter and easier.
